Coastlinero took over a ship chandlery a few doors up from the harbour and kept the long counter for a card table. Walk in from Goondoon Street and everything happens in person — five hundred, euchre, crib or a friendly rubber of bridge — never online, and no chip is worth a cent outside the room.
Fifty years of rope, then four tables of felt
One rule sits above every other at Coastlinero: nothing on this floor is ever played for money, and nothing about it moves online.
Before the cards, 15 Goondoon Street supplied rope, canvas and ships’ stores to vessels working the Gladstone harbour for the best part of a century.
The long timber counter from those days still stands; it holds a teapot and a jug of lemonade now instead of coils of line.

A small counter runs along the back wall, poured by whoever isn’t dealing, with a short list of tea, coffee, lemonade and mineral water.
This has never been a kitchen — there are no plates and no menu, just something to hold while the cards go round.
The counter keeps the same hours as the room and closes with the last hand, usually somewhere around one in the morning.
